• Men's Sportswear Designer - Full time view job

The men’s sportswear designer is a critical member of the highly collaborative toad design & development team and the key driver behind creating concepts that speak to the active, casual lifestyle of the toad man.

This job requires the skill and passion for creating clothing with a distinctive toad point of view: relevant yet enduring style in harmony with comfort, function and environmental intelligence.

You must have intimate knowledge of the men’s market - in particular, the sportswear and outdoor sectors, but also keep a keen eye on fashion.

You must have great instincts for trends, pattern, texture and colour and love detail and nuance. You must have a strong knowledge of fabrics, be particular about how clothes fit and a fiend for quality.

The men’s designer is responsible for creating the men’s seasonal collection, in collaboration with the design director and the design & development team, working with input from merchandising and sales.

• create relevant, innovative design concepts and effectively communicate and present these concepts through various discussions and formal line review process.
• ensure that all products meet horny toad principles for balancing comfort, function style and environmental intelligence and are of the highest quality.
• provide complete style definition including, but not limited to, concept sheet, detailed drawings, fabric description, yarn-dye patterns, colours, fit requirements, trims, and BOM’s to hand-off to product developer.
• maintain knowledge of current trends, colour, fabrics, trims, garment construction, washes, finishes and relevant garment technology.
• work with the design & development team and production managers to source appropriately to achieve desired costing, price point and margin goals while achieving design goals.
• communicate effectively and respectfully with vendors and agents to achieve design and environmental goals.
• participate as needed in design off-sites, brainstorming, line de-briefings, sales meetings, cross- departmental planning and team-building sessions.
• effectively present the men’s products at line reviews and sales meetings.
• travel to factories, trade shows and other events as needed to achieve desired design goals.

• BA, BFA or BS in apparel design, or similar
• 5 plus years of relevant design experience or equivalent
• understanding of design through production process, supply chain, garment construction and costing
• understanding of line planning and merchandising
• knowledge of textiles, pattern, texture and colour
• ability to communicate effectively, verbally and written, with a wide variety of people and cultures
• aptitude for systems and systematic work and a strong attention to detail
• excellent computer skills with proficiency using programs such as Adobe illustrator and Microsoft Office.
• ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, be flexible and work in a team-based structure in an open office (distracting) environment
• ability and desire to travel domestically and internationally
