Good for the Earth / Good for the Soul Project

T-shirts that look good, feel good and do good.

We all wear t-shirts - a lot. They make up a ridiculous amount of our wardrobes. Most of us have a drawer dedicated to them. We've decided to use our t-shirt collection as an opportunity to do more than just sell you another shirt. The artwork is a collaboration between Horny Toad and an artist or musician that we dig - our own t-shirt love child.

So what's good about it? Well, other than being made right here in the good ol' U. S. of A. out of 100% organic cotton, five percent of the sales go directly to support social and environmental projects picked by the artists that created the tees. This season we worked with friends and musicians Chris Pierce and Brett Dennen to create themes that are relevant, timely and timeless.

Look good. Feel good. Do good.

Chris Pierce is a soul singer and song-craftsman. We met Chris (a.k.a. CP) through a friend of a friend (a bit random - but usually how things work around here) on the beach when we were shooting our short film Thursday. We became fast friends. Aside from being an amazing artist it was pretty natural because CP is the kind of guy who is inspirational to be around. He has a soul that follows his heart and passions. Over the years he has gained a lot of notoriety (and fans) from the person we met on the beach but he is still the same guy who makes music everyday and tries to make a difference in the world. Chris's non-profit of choice is GLAD, Greater Los Angeles Agency on Deafness, Inc. and here's why:

"When I was a teenager, I was diagnosed with a chronic hearing loss called Otosclerosis. I was told that it is a disease that I probably inherited from the Scandanavian side of my family. I started loosing hearing in both of my ears pretty rapidly and had a surgery called a stapedectomy on my right ear that restored about 80% of my hearing in that ear.

I still haven't had the surgery on my left ear and have been writing, playing and performing for a couple decades with only 20% in my left ear. I've been thinking about trying to do the surgery on my left ear sometime soon, but I'll have to stop music for a few months, which of course would be really hard for me to do."

Beethoven, Howard Hughes, Harriet Martineau and Frankie Valli all suffered from Otosclerosis.

GLAD promotes the social, recreational, cultural, educational, and vocational well being of its deaf and hard of hearing constituents.

Brett Dennen is a modern-day independent musician with a lot more than meets the eye (or rather, the ear). He writes songs that seem to flow out of his rustic upbringing and passion to give back. We discovered Brett through one of our own toads, who was a big fan of his music - and his red hair. We love Brett's words and music but we were pleasantly surprised to discover that he has an artist's eye. His artwork is personal, sweet and simple and subtly profound. He's a renaissance kind of guy.

We love Brett for lots of reasons but especially because he is someone who really cares about others and tries to give back where he can. "It's bigger than me just singing and an audience listening," Brett says. "It's about making a positive change." Download a song here.

Brett's non-profit of choice is The Mosaic Project, that works towards a peaceful future by reaching children in their formative years. They unite young children of diverse backgrounds, provide them with essential skills to thrive in an increasingly diverse society, and empower them to strive for peace.

Horny Toad, loves to have fun and do the right thing - yes, it is possible to do both.

Our non-profit organization of choice is Our partnership with Planet Access Company (PAC), which provides training and work opportunities to adults with developmental disabilities by picking, packing and shipping all of Horny Toad's orders, has given way to Search for Adventure. SFA takes the proceeds from PAC and programs like Good For the Earth / Good for the Soul to send Search residents and members of the PAC crew on trips to get a taste of the outdoors. After all, what's work without vacation?

It's an awesome program that everyone from the people participating in it to The Toads to our customers can be very proud of.

Look good. Feel Good. Do Good.

The choices we make are as important as the clothes we create. We try each day to lighten our environmental footprint, be good partners in all of our relationships, pay attention and stay active in our communities and support organizations that improve our world - the source of our daily adventures.
