Position: Men's Sportswear Designer
Reports To: Director of Product
Location: Santa Barbara, California



Overview:

Horny Toad is seeking an inspired mens sportswear designer to join our highly collaborative, fun but hard-driving, hands-on design & development team. This position requires the skill and passion for creating sportswear that is actively accommodating and socially versatile with a distinctive point of view - style that is relevant, enduring, effortless and balanced with comfort, function and environmental awareness.



You Must...

  • have a keen understanding of the spectrum of men's sportswear from lifestyle to outdoor to directional fashion
  • possess great instincts for trends, pattern, texture, color and detail
  • have a strong working knowledge of garment construction, patterns, and textiles
  • be committed to supporting and furthering our environmental goals
  • be very particular about how clothes fit
  • be a fiend for quality
  • be able to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, be flexible and work in a team-based structure in an open office (distracting) environment
  • have positive energy, great attitude and be bursting with ideas


    • Essential Job Functions:

  • create innovative design concepts and effectively communicate these concepts through discussions, sketches, boards and a formal line review process
  • provide complete style definition including detailed drawings, fabric description, colours, yarn-dye patterns, fit requirements, trims and BOMs to hand-off to development
  • work with production to source appropriately to achieve design goals while meeting cost, price point and margin goals
  • communicate effectively and respectfully with global vendors and agents to achieve design and environmental goals
  • participate in design off-sites, brainstorming, line planning and de-briefings, sales meetings, cross-departmental and team-building sessions
  • travel to factories, trade shows and other events as needed


    • Requirements:

  • college degree in apparel design
  • 5 plus years of relevant design experience
  • Proficiency in Illustrator, PhotoShop, Excel and other useful software programs
