Position: Women's Sportswear Designer
Department: Design
Reports To: Design Director
Location: Santa Barbara, California


Drive the growth of the Horny Toad brand within specialty retail through a deep understanding of the retail business model, the fostering of mutually beneficial partnerships with our retail partners and by building and leading a dynamic and motivated sales team.

  • Essential Job Functions:
  • create innovative design concepts and effectively communicate these concepts through discussions, sketches, boards and formal line review process
  • provide complete style definition including detailed drawings, fabric description, colours, pattern and print, fit requirements, trims and BOMs to hand-off to product development
  • work with production to source appropriately to achieve design goals while meeting cost, price point and margin goals
  • communicate effectively and respectfully with global vendors and agents to achieve design and environmental goals
  • participate in design off-sites, brainstorming, line planning and de-briefings, sales meetings, cross-departmental and team-building sessions
  • travel to factories, trade shows and other events as needed to achieve desired design goals

  • Requirements:
  • College degree in apparel design
  • 5 plus years of relevant design experience
  • proficiency in Illustrator is essential, familiarity with Create Suite optimal functional in Excel

  • Position: Senior Technical Product Developer
    Reports To: Director of Supply Chain
    Location: Santa Barbara, California


    This job is critical to the product development process and requires a passion for creating clothing that looks good and works, a love of how things go together and the ability to creatively problem-solve and communicate around the world.

    Essential Job Functions:

  • Manage and completes style definition from design hand-off through production.
  • Manage product construction, fit, documentation and communication with factories.
  • Collaborate with design team to execute styles to brand from initial concept to production.
  • Schedule and manage fit sessions with fit models, including seasonal bulk review.
  • Maintain Horny Toad fit blocks, grade rules, and fit consistency across all products. Create patterns and revise factory patterns as needed to execute fit needs.
  • Maintain and communicate accurate proto specification packages, including illustrations and technical sketches, fabric and trims, construction details, bill of materials, and measurement charts.
  • Track all fit samples associated with the product to ensure their movement through the product development process in coordination with the development calendar.
  • Work with design and production teams to achieve desired costing and hit stated price point and margin goals while achieving design goals.
  • Communicate effectively with factories as their primary contact on the development and confirmation of all styles.
  • Collaborate with Production to determine the sourcing strategy for the season and collaborate on analysis of factory performance from a development perspective.
  • Manage Product Development team to execute to department goals and maintain a balanced workflow season to season.
  • Promote direct reports professional development.
  • Evolve department process & procedures with cross-functional buy-in when necessary.
  • Target opportunities to increase traceability & sustainability of Horny Toad product within the scope of, but not limited to, Product Development.
  • Review QC issues with Production and factories to evaluate and clarify issues.
  • Travel to factories as needed to review seasonal development progress and business relationships.

  • Qualifications:
  • A BA/BS Degree in Apparel Design, Textiles, Garment Engineering, Costuming or similar.
  • 5 plus years of successful and progressive experience in product development including pattern work.
  • Working knowledge of garment manufacturing process for wovens & knits.
  • Able to communicate clearly and professionally on a technical level with staff and all business partners.
  • Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Excel & Illustrator.

  • Position: Managing Content Editor
    Reports To: Creative Director
    Location: Santa Barbara, California


    To create/manage/steward the Horny Toad voice in all media

    Horny Toads in-house creative department directs, designs and produces all digital and print collateral related to the Horny Toad brand, product and corporate communications. This includes multiple web sites, email campaigns, print and digital workbooks/lookbooks, product graphics/labeling/hangtags, POP/in-store materials, tradeshow booth graphics/signage, photography, video, brochures, social media/blog, digital and print advertising.

    The Managing Content Editor (MCE) is responsible for the voice of Horny Toad as expressed in all communication channels. In addition to being a talented writer and editor, the MCE is creative, has a quick wit, is up for any challenge, open-minded, loves collaborating with other talented people, thrives under pressure and is driven to make great work. As part of the Creative team the MCE works with our Product, Sales, Marketing and Web teams to produce targeted, effective collateral and campaigns that are on brand and meet defined communications goals.

    Key Responsibilities:

  • Concepts and copy for eComm campaigns, web site assets, digital ads
  • Social media content driven by marketing calendar
  • Bi-weekly blog posts
  • Corporate content, press releases
  • Manage freelance content contributors
  • All product-related copy
  • Collaborate with other departments

  • Qualifications:
  • Minimum 5 years experience as writer/editor, preferably in consumer products
  • Proficient in Word, Excel, and Powerpoint
  • Proficient in blogging platforms
  • Fluent and active on multiple social media platforms
  • Ability to work well in a team-based, deadline-driven environment
  • Self-motivated with exceptional attention to detail and quality
  • Bachelors degree or equivalent

  • Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to work in an open environment and with other teams
  • Ability to be flexible with extended work hours as necessary
