The Stash Bash was on. Our turnout for the December First Thursday might have been the biggiest party to date. We had a packed house all night!
Lizard Lounge hosted Portland's first ever Movember "Gala Party". Movember is an organization that teamed up with The Prostate Cancer Foundation to raise awareness for men's health.
At the start of November guys register with a clean shaven face. The Movember participants, known as Mo Bros, then have the remainder of the month to grow and groom their Mo (Australian slang for moustache), raising money and awareness along the way for men's health and the fight against prostate cancer. At the end of november, they throw these "Gala parties" to give one last blast of exposure for the foundation.
Boy Eats Drum Machine was the musical talent for the evening. He's a one mand band and native Portlander, Jon Ragel. He is a songwriter, producer, singer, turntablist, and also plays saxophone, guitar, synthesizer, organ, and several percussive knickknacks. As a one-man musical act, BEDM merges the worlds of turntablism and live rock performance as Ragel spins breaks and surgically inserts sounds while juggling vocals, percussion, and saxophone. He was very impresive and brought a huge crowd. His musical capabilites are unique and original, to say the least. Be sure to check out one of his upcoming shows, its a sight to see for sure.
Jesse Reno's art opening show was big, colorful, and has deep personal meaning. His work has appeared in Juxtapoz Magazine and he has a new book titled Forward. His designs can be seen on a variety of goods like shirts, skateboards, and furniture. Though he calls Portland his home, Jesse travels internationally giving workshops and lectures. Once again, Widmer brewery topped off the night by providing the booze. A choice of Heifeweizen and there new seasonal choice "Brrr".
