Just because the economy has slowed down, doesn't mean you have to - the fun must go on! This summer lots of us are opting out of the exotic vacations to far-flung places in favor of the staycation or road trip.

Wherever you end up going we want you to send us a Post Card from the Edge. Submit a photo on our site (or snail mail us a postcard) with a caption about that roadside attraction, strangely worded sign, or something that just made you do a double take - ya know, like that huge cow you found in Colorado ... weird but hilarious.

So, hit the open road or even your own town, and show us the quirky things you saw this summer vacation. Join us in our crusade against the mundane and get entered into a drawing for some killer prizes that will extend your vacation.

I enjoy odd angles but the juxtaposition of the lichen-covered tree and all these perfect boxwood structures really struck me as beautiful. It's incredibly hard to keep a shrub pruned that well, by the way... I don't know where they lurk but Colonial Williamsburg must have a whole army of elven gardeners and shrubbery experts.

This was a sign at a booth at the arts and crafts fair on the Santa Fe Plaza. I thought it was hilarious so I framed it in the camera and took a shot.

Featured here is my Horny Toad-clad hubby Chad mimicking the Cow that Jumped Over the Moon--Texas-style! This oil derrick is in Luling, TX, home of the Watermelon Thump, where we stopped off for some finger-lickin' good BBQ during Memorial Day Weekend. We thought this made a great roadside attraction entry, and Chad has decided to dub the photo: the Toad Jumped Over the Moon. Please vote for us! We love California!

Another memorable trip where my friend got a RAGING case of Montezuma's revenge and we had to walk 4 miles down a dirt road - taking pit stops every five minutes and using rocks as toilet paper until we reached home at dawn. Unfortunately there was no documentation of that incident (it's seared in my mind forever, though) but this is my favorite picture from that vacation. I have great memories of hanging out with the locals in small quirky rum shops.

My last vacation was a two week stay in Ghana where I got free room & board in exchange for doing paper making with local kids using indigenous plant material. On one of my few trips out from the neighborhood I stayed in, I got to visit a coffin maker. This shoe is actually a coffin you can get buried in!

We had a "stay-cation" the year this photo was taken. My daughter and son are in the pool. We have loads of toads in our pool...the kids even name them and keep track of them all summer. The toad on Sophia's head is Harold, and yes, he's a real live toad!
