This week’s report comes from Ellen. Food has never been as well tended to as it is with her.
I came across a guy with unique produce, totally different than everyone else’s offerings. There was this basket of little eggplants – which were just beautiful and brilliantly deep purple.
… and a basket of lemon cucumbers – also very pretty, with little tiny black speckles. We sat there at the market and ate them like apples.
Then I went home and cooked them this way:
Sliced the eggplants and lemon cucumbers plus tomatoes, black olives, and fresh garlic (also available at the market right now – no dried skins or peeling, just use the whole bulb and stalk to get a milder flavor). Sauteed everything in olive oil and seasoned it with salt/pepper/basil/rosemary and served it over capellini with a sprinkle of fresh parmesan.
Took a bowl of the pasta outside to the garden and ate while the sun went down with a chilled glass of Demetria Viognier.
As always, we want to know what you’re eating too. Drop us a line in the comments section with your own market report.
